Not so great

Gary909 8/2/2021

Well you asked When we Bought the 55 Oled it was amazing. But after 3 yrs of normal use we got burnin. You advertised incredible reception and clarity. But why would LG tear loose Oled knowing that after a few years customer would experience burnin ruining the quality of the picture. So distracting We are a LG household with many of your products. We put trust in all you products but very disappointed in you Oled screens.

Like Looking Through a Window

scottlz 5/18/2021

LGs OLED is just superior -- the different colors including black and white are clear realistic and separated. It is better than a movie theatre. It is like looking through a window. I paired it with a soundbar connected via the TVs optical output and so both the picture are the sound are crystal clear. Content in 4K or HDR makes you want to watch things that might otherwise pass your attention like 4K nature documentaries. All my streaming services -- Netflx Prime Video Hulu YouTubeTV -- come through super well. The only incomplete aspect of this years model is that the internal apps are limited but that is solved by adding your favorite streaming device externally via HDMI. I have an Amazon Cube as well as AppleTV connected.

Nice TV - while it lasts

Bstir 4/29/2021

After doing a lot of research comparing different brands and technologies I purchased this TV in 2017. I was initially impressed by the quality of the picture the wide viewing angle and the deep blacks. Even the sound was good for such a slim TV. In early 2019 however I noticed something in the bottom right corner of the display. It was an ESPN logo even though I wasnt watching ESPN at the time. I tried using the Clear Panel Noise function thinking it was simply image retention but to no avail. The image remained. The image retention or burn-in later spread to the center of the screen. I can best describe it as a large greenish blob. The burn-in was most apparent when the screen was showing reds oranges and yellows or someones skin. I contacted LG and sent photos. To their credit they agreed to cover the cost of the repair replacing the old panel with a new one. After the TV was fixed everything was good again . . . until late 2020 when another logo appeared in the bottom right corner of the screen. It was quickly followed by the large greenish blob. This was despite the fact that I had previously lowered the brightness setting set screen shift to on and downloaded every available software update. I even instructed my children not to allow static images to remain on the screen and to change the channel frequently. We use our TV as any family would: to watch a variety of television and play the occasional video game. If burn-in were not an issue I would have gladly given the TV five stars. But it is and now I find myself wishing I had purchased a much-cheaper LED set four years ago.

Soon as warranty up tv quality failed

Cwrr 4/11/2021

After 2.5 years I developed a burn image across the lower 25 of the screen. Best Buy had me run a program for 5 days to see if it would scrub out. It did not. Called LG to see if they could help me. Sent them an email with a photo and a copy of my purchase to see if I qualify for a one time screen replacement. Told I would be contacted in 5 days. Its been 25 days no contact about my situation yet.

OLED picture quality degrades over time

BobGonzo 3/8/2021

Ive had this television for just over 4 years. I like the smart features for internet viewing. OLED picture quality was initially great but over the last year i have noticed images burned into the screen that do not go away. Im not sure whether this is a weaknes in OLED technology itself or a design flaw. It probably would be expensive to repar as the entire screen would have to be replaced.

Burn-in is a serious concern for gamers

DRBDM 3/7/2021

Generally this is a great TV. The image resolution color accuracy and contrast are all excellent. The screen is quite reflective so keep that in mind. But if youre a serious gamer maybe avoid OLED. After a few years of playing I found that the HUD of my favorite game had burned in to the screen. Now the static text and shapes of the HUD are visible whenever the screen displays certain colors particularly yellows and reds. This issue is permanent. Its the result of the pixels degrading at different rates. So if youre sure you wont be leaving the same fixed image on the screen for hours this TV is great. But remember that burn-in builds up over time. You probably wont see it within the warranty period. I didnt notice for almost 4 years.

Extreme Burn In

Disappointed LG Quality 2/28/2021

When the TV was new it was great. Within weeks we started to notice a strange ghost image on the screen. Eventually we figured out that what we were seeing was caused by burn in issues on the screen. We tried to fix this ourselves using the TVs own software which apparently does something to attempt to repair this issue. However it did not help. Over time the burn in became worse and worse. Now you can distinctly see where black bars used for closed captions have made a permanent occlusion as well as station logos in other parts of the screen along with burn in where news peoples faces tend to be in the middle of the screen. I feel that the OLED technology is not quite where you would want it to be in order to have a TV that you can enjoy for a number of years. You may want to consider other types of displays that do not have such annoying burn in issue over time.

DebByD 2/4/2021

Bought this tv about 9 months ago. After 3 months no picture. Took 1 week for LG to find someone to service in our area. After 3-4 weeks the Service person drove about 1 1/2 hours to come and replace the front screen. He knew what he was doing and was in and out within an hour. So far it is still working and we love the picture. The size is perfect for our room.

Amazing Picture but...

Damon19 2/3/2021

I bought this TV shortly after OLED was available back in 2017. Ive had this TV now for 4 years. The picture is amazing Setup was easy to adjust to standard cable resolutions. Lets be honest our TVs are years ahead of most cable company signals. My only con which some might view as a big deal is the screen has what is deemed to be burn-in. Its more of a discoloration in most of the display and I started to notice this a few months ago watching a football game. Yellows were green reds were purple/brownish. While this is a big deal I still give this TV a 4 considering the responsiveness from LG with correcting the issue. They are covering the cost of a new panel while I cover the labor. Worth it in my opinion LG did the right thing here hence the 4 rating. If the panel didnt experience this discoloration burn-in I would have definitely given this TV a 5. By far the best TV Ive owned

Amazing picture quality but Burn In

Luwester 1/24/2021

Ive had this TV since 2016 and it has been an absolutely joy for the first three years--with amazing picture quality and a decent pair of built-in speakers. I dont watch a lot of TV but had kept Bloomberg News on the background since Ive been working from home. After a month of keeping the TV on for 5-6 hrs 5 days a week a distant burn-in has appeared with the Bloomberg News box. It is very noticeable and have unfortunately spoiled the TV. I have run the pixel cleanup 20+ times and have always enabled the picture shift to prevent burn-ins. Unfortunately that did not help. Im not sure if this would happen to other OLED TVs but do aware of burn-ins with this one.

Fantastic picture and great LG service support

steveefox 1/18/2021

I bought this 3 years and 11 months ago and the picture has always been fantastic. We experienced some screen burn in of the OLEDs that we started to notice in the third year. We dont recall ever having frozen a screen for a long period of time but regardless of the cause the LG service department graciously replaced the OLED screen for free with only a minimal labor charge to change it out. New screen looks fantastic and the technician gave great advise on additional ways to prevent screen burn in by limiting the OLED brightness etc. Thanks again for the great support

This is a great TV picture. I love this TV and LG products. However OLED TVs have a problem with Screen Burn In. LG says they fixed it in the newer models but time will tell. LG makes good products and would buy a LG TV but would hesitate on the OLED TVs for now.

Great picture

Bernie46 1/4/2021

This set produces a great picture however the burn in I experience only rates this set 2 stars. You replaced our first panel at your own expense however the second panel had burn in after only 8 month. We only watch TV 4-5 hours per day never on the same channel for more than 1-1-1/2 at a time. Will never purchase another OLED set.

Beautiful TV but the Display doesnt last

whitemike421 1/4/2021

I really like this TV but the display just doesnt last. I only had the TV for about 2 years and then I started noticing dark spots and shaded sections of the screen. Fast forward another year and I have a blue pond in the middle of the screen horizontal lines in sections at the bottom dark spots in the bottom right corner and burn in. I did not have the brightness on the highest setting and I dont watch the same show every day for hours at a time so this shouldnt happen. I had to fight way too hard to get LG to stand behind their product so that was very disappointing. Now they are sending a technician to replace the display but I still have to some up with hundreds of dollars for labor to have it replaced. This TV is too expensive to only last for a couple of years.

Burned out by LG 1/3/2021

Beautiful tv for 2 years then burn in in the corner and large black lines across the bottom. No gaming no news junkie no videos no high brightness settings contact LG out of warranty out of luck. Never OLED again.

Gorgeous picture and Smart Options

loki965 12/31/2020

This has been an excellent television for me. I love to watch movies and modern science fiction and fantasy shows and the picture is consistently surprising. And its not even a 4K. I like that I dont necessarily need a separate device to watch streaming television like Netflix and Prime though the lack of HBOMax is a little frustrating. Fix that and it would be perfect.

Poor picture even worse service. Too expensive

Gerry Poradzisz 12/30/2020

When I bought this television I had no idea that Best Buy runs a VERY special closed circuit program to highlight their televisions. Got mine home and bam no where near the picture quality. Now there is an image burned into the screen L.G. reps are not responding to my calls. See the rectangle burned into the image below the top center? Im sorry I paid this much for what I thought would be a wonderful retirement gift.

Great Picture When it Works

Roog17 12/30/2020

I bought this TV 4 years ago and it was great when it worked. However it does burn-in from regular usage and not just a little burn-in. A lot of burn-in. So two starts for great steller picture but minus 3 stars for only lasting 1-2 years w/o burn-in. Oh and if you have burn-in LG does do a courtesy replacement if your TV set is within 4 years but unlucky for me that date passed was 8 days ago which sucked for me. LG Service couldnt do anything not even get me a discount on a new TV. Dont make a mistake a go OLED unless you want a new TV every couple of years. To be fair the total power on time is 13721 hours. I do leave my TV on all the time but most of the time its running its screen saver which a black screen with fireworks.

Amazing you can buy a TV as expensive as this one and in just a few years its completely outmatched tech-wise.

Incredible picture awful image burn-in

david_n 12/21/2020

This is an amazing TV but after around 2 years of owning it image retention issues started to show up despite being careful. Now Im nearing 4 years of having owned it and the image retention/burn in is horrific and noticeable in almost every viewing situation. Really sad because I liked the set a lot and LG has been good in the past but they refused to service it saying it was out of warranty and there are no local authorized repair centers near me so Im stuck with it.

Great TV but...

Nick23Santos 12/21/2020

Overall I love the tv and so do the people that come to our house. The OLED display looks beautiful and we get complements about that. However we had a couple of issues already. One has to do with the OLED panel itself. At some point we got this yellow spot right after the warranty expired. Then the tv wasnt turning on just with the remote. We had to physically shut it off through its power button and turn it back on again. LG was kind enough to replace the OLED panel due to the yellow spot even being out of the warranty period. The second issue still exists and we just live with it. Aside from these 2 issues the image quality itself is great.

Overall Great TV

Bradley C 12/15/2020

I bought this TV in April 2017 and have been pleased with it ever since. The picture quality available smart applications and functions and other add-ons have all been great. Furthermore when an issue arose with the TV picture customer service was excellent at quickly getting it resolved so that I could continue to enjoy the TV. I would definitely recommend this TV to others and purchase other LG products in the future.
